14/11/2019 (Agence Europe) – Representatives of the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union marked, on Wednesday evening 13 November, a provisional interinstitutional political agreement on new European rules for tyre labelling. According to the agreement, the labelling will have to indicate the tyres fuel efficiency, wet grip and external rolling noise. Information on snow and ice performance may also be included on the label with pictograms. For the first time, EU rules will cover heavy-duty truck tyres (C3). Rapporteur on this issue, Henna Virkkunen (EPP, Finland) welcomed the fact that the problem of microplastics emitted by tyres will be addressed as soon as test methods are developed. EUROPE will continue to follow this story. (MB)
