Renew Europe group in European Parliament is concerned about a new attack on political freedom

31/10/2019 (Agence Europe)On Thursday 31 October, Renew Europe, the liberal group in the European Parliament, reacted to the launch of investigations against Momentum, one of the main opposition parties in the Hungarian government. Expressing their solidarity with Momentum, they expressed their deep concern about the repeated attacks on political freedom in Hungary. The Romanian Dacian Cioloș, the group's President, considered that "the mobilisation, for political purposes, of state justice and investigation bodies to harass and intimidate political opponents is unacceptable" in a statement. He considered that "this continued assault to democracy in Hungary should trigger a new reflection on the sanction mechanisms within Europe against governments that clearly undermine our common European values. We stand in solidarity with Momentum in the face of politically motivated attacks". (AC - internship)
