30/10/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 30 October, the European Commission approved the disbursement to Tunisia of a 150 million euros loan tranche, the third and final tranche of a 500 million euros macro-economic assistance programme approved in 2016 (see EUROPE 11568/6). This payment follows the implementation of measures to support the country's economic transition, the Commission said in a statement, citing areas such as the fight against corruption, public service, social protection and the labour market. “This payment illustrates our unwavering commitment to help Tunisia”, said Pierre Moscovici, Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs, who considered it “essential” for Tunis to “deepen economic and structural reforms in order to ensure the sustainability of democratic achievements”. Since 2015, the EU will have provided 800 million euros in macro-financial assistance to Tunisia under two separate programmes. (MB)
