22/10/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 21 October, MEPs from the Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) and Environment (ENVI) committees supported the decision to open interinstitutional negotiations on the Regulation laying the foundations for the future taxonomy on sustainable finance, which will assess, sector by sector, the ecological sustainability of economic activities (see EUROPE 12026/4) by 95 votes to 7 with 9 abstentions. The European Parliament had adopted its position before the European elections (see EUROPE 12224/1). This vote therefore allows it to consolidate its position and start negotiations with the EU Council, which adopted its negotiating mandate at the end of September (see EUROPE 12333/8). The first ‘trilogue’ (see EUROPE 12351/25) will be held in the evening of Wednesday 23 October. (MF)
