22/10/2019 (Agence Europe) – The European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) received the Global Privacy and Data Protection Award on Tuesday 22 October at the annual International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners in Tirana. This prize recognizes the EDPS for developing a free software tool (‘Website Evidence Collector’) to collect evidence on the processing of personal data on websites. Originally designed to facilitate EDPS inspections of EU websites, the system can now be used by data protection authorities, privacy professionals and web developers to carry out their own inspections. Among other things, it allows them to collect evidence relating to cookies and the secure transfer of data, using a “method that is reproducible, reliable and fast”, the EDPS points out. (MF)
