07/10/2019 (Agence Europe) – The Justice and Home Affairs Council Ministers adopted without discussion the Directive on whistleblowers on Monday 7 October, allowing it to be published in the EU's Official Journal. The adoption was welcomed by the First Vice-President, Frans Timmermans, and the Commissioner of Justice, Věra Jourová, who recalled how important the role of whistleblowers is for the proper implementation of European legislation. Former rapporteur Virginie Rozière (S&D, France) insisted on monitoring the implementation of the transposition of the text. As a reminder, the Directive makes it possible to cover reporting in many fields of activity and to protect a large number of persons and sets up a two-step alert system (first internally or to competent authorities, then externally to the public) (see EUROPE 12212/11).
