European Parliament Civil Liberties Committee strengthens position of its rapporteurs on key issues

Members of the European Parliament's Civil Liberties Committee (LIBE) confirmed on Tuesday evening, 24 September, a series of votes cast before the European elections on major issues, allowing them to open or resume negotiations with Member States. They also approved the negotiating teams.

They did so in particular on the reports on the reintroduction of temporary controls in the Schengen area, the report by Tanja Fajon (S&D, Slovenia) which did not reach agreement with the EU Council, but was endorsed by the plenary in April. However, the procedure is still that the plenary should again endorse this new confirmation of the position of the LIBE Committee.

MEPs also gave the green light on Tuesday evening to work on the regulation on the removal of terrorist content from the Internet, which had also been reinforced in April at first reading (see EUROPE 12231/8). As a reminder, this report is now championed by Polish MEP Patrik Jaki of the ECR, Daniel Dalton from Britain having not been re-elected.

The LIBE Committee MEPs voted in favour on 8 other reports, including those on the Migration, Asylum and Internal Security Funds and the Visa Information System (VIS). (Original version in French by Solenn Paulic)
