24/09/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 24 September, the European Parliament's Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN) expressed its support for the opening of interinstitutional negotiations (trilogues) on the mobility package with the Council, on the basis of the positions adopted at first reading by the European Parliament during the previous mandate. The votes confirm the trend that was emerging at the beginning of the month (see EUROPE 12319/7). MEPs approved the decision to open negotiations: - on the rules on the posting of drivers in road transport, with Kateřina Konečná (EUL/NGL, Czech Republic) as rapporteur (by 28 votes to 16 with 3 abstentions); - on rules related to rest periods for drivers (30 votes to 15 with 2 abstentions), with Henna Virkkkunen (EPP, Finland) as rapporteur; - finally, on the rules on cabotage (30 votes to 14 with 2 abstentions) with Ismail Ertug (S&D, Germany) as rapporteur. The trilogues are expected to begin by mid-October. (PH)
