20/09/2019 (Agence Europe) – As expected, the Friday 20 September discussions on Financial Transaction Tax (FTT) in the EU Council Working Party on Tax did not achieve any significant breakthroughs (see EUROPE 12330/20). According to a European source, the meeting was very short and the ten Member States involved in enhanced cooperation to set up an FTT simply presented the progress on their work (see EUROPE 12275/2). They are said to have indicated that technical details still remained to be settled and did not advance, at this stage, a timetable for a stabilised text to be presented to the Council of the EU. As for the non-participating Member States, they stressed above all the importance of respecting the procedures and therefore of analysing and discussing the text by the Twenty-Eight, before it is put to a vote.
