Mogherini announces five high-level appointments

The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, announced the appointment of senior officials in the European External Action Service (EEAS) in a statement on Thursday 5 September.

Pawel Herczynski from Poland has been appointed Managing Director for Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) and Crisis Response.

Stefano Tomat, an Italian national, takes up the position of Director for Integrated Approach for Security and Peace, and his Portuguese colleague José Morgado becomes Director of the EU Intelligence and Situation Centre (INTCEN).

For her part, Mrs Mogherini's current Deputy Head of Cabinet, Oliver Rentscheler of Germany, is appointed Director for Interinstitutional Relations, Policy Coordination and Public Diplomacy.

Finally, Cristian Tudor, a Romanian national, will lead the EU delegation in Kuwait, and Spain's Diego Ruiz Alonso becomes head of the EU delegation in Turkmenistan. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
