The European Parliament's agriculture committee completed the composition of its Bureau on Tuesday 23 July in Brussels by electing its third Vice-Chair, Mazaly Aguilar, of the Spanish VOX party, affiliated to the ECR group, and its fourth Vice-Chair, Elsi Katainen (see EUROPE 12293/3).
For example, the 'cordon sanitaire' to prevent extreme right-wing candidates from being elected to important posts did not work for the election of the third Vice-Chair of the European Parliament agriculture committee.
MEP Mazaly Aguilar (ECR, Spain) received 27 votes, while 20 votes went to the S&D group candidate, Spanish Clara Aguilera García (there was one abstention). Anthea McIntyre (ECR, UK) argued for the application of the D'Hondt key to grant this position to a member from the ECR group.
Elsi Katainen (RE, Finland) was elected 4th Vice-Chair of the European Parliament agriculture committee with 29 votes in favour, while Maxette Pirbakas (ID, France) received 9 (with 9 abstentions). Francisco Guerreiro (Greens/EFA, Portugal) is first Vice-Chair and Daniel Buda (EPP, Romania) is second Vice-Chair of this committee.
Norbert Lins (EPP, Germany) is Chair of the European agriculture committee. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
