15/07/2019 (Agence Europe) – The candidacy of former Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydło (ECR) was rejected by an overwhelming majority (19 votes in favour, 34 votes against) a 2nd time by MEPs of the Employment and Social Affairs Committee (EMPL) in Strasbourg, on the margins of the plenary session on Monday 15 July. This result is even more clear-cut than in the 1st vote (EUROPE 12293/3) and could impact on the vote of the Conference of Committee Chairs (CPC), which must choose a president tomorrow, a position in which Antonio Tajani (EPP, Italian) was expected. However, the same conference was scheduled to hear, on Wednesday 17 July, candidates replacing Corina Crețu and Andrus Ansip at the European Commission. Many people do not understand the reasons why the ECR group has represented a PiS candidate, who acts as a repeller for a clear majority of MEPs. (PH)
