15/07/2019 (Agence Europe) – At the meeting of Agriculture Ministers on Monday 15 July, the EU Council adopted its decision on the signing of an agreement between the European Union and the United States, allowing the United States to increase to 35,000 tonnes their share of an existing duty-free tariff quota of 45,000 tonnes of hormone-free beef, phased over seven years (see EUROPE 12275/21, 12215/9). This agreement was concluded with Washington in the first quarter of 2019. This solution puts an end to the EU-US dispute that arose in 2009 following the EU's refusal to allow imports of US beef containing hormones. The agreement should be signed in Brussels very soon. However, the exact date has not yet been released to the press. (HD)
