26/06/2019 (Agence Europe) – American social networking giant Facebook has pledged to cooperate with the French judiciary on hate speech on its platform, French Secretary of State for Digital Affairs Cédric O. indicated on Tuesday 25 June. “Facebook will now transmit IP addresses to the French courts to identify the perpetrators of hate speech on the Internet”, he said on Twitter. The social network will provide IP addresses directly to judges, for the purpose of prosecution, in order to locate users who post homophobic, racist or anti-Semitic content on its network, reports AFP. The engagement only concerns France and will make it possible to speed up the proceedings since it will no longer be necessary to go through the American courts. Last year (see EUROPE 12136/31), the French government and Facebook had already announced their intention to collaborate on online hate and offensive content. (MF)
