Ryszard Legutko (Poland) and Raffaele Fitto (Italy) were appointed by acclamation as co-chairs by their counterparts in the Conservative ECR group in the European Parliament on Wednesday 19 June.
But it is the Jan Zahradil (Czech Republic), Spitzenkandidat of the European Conservative Party ACRE in the European elections, who will defend the group's colours in the election of the future President of the European Parliament, which will take place during the European Parliament's constitutive session at the beginning of July.
On Wednesday, Derk Jan Eppink (Netherlands), Daniel Hannan (UK), Assita Kanko (Belgium), Peter Lundgren (Sweden), Hermann Tertsch Del Valle-Lersundi (Spain) and Roberts Zīle (Latvia) were also elected vice-presidents of the group.
Having welcomed the three elected representatives of the Spanish Vox party despite the reticence of the Belgian N-VA party, the ECR group will be the 6th largest political group. Dominated by the Polish PiS party, it now has 62 MEPs from 15 Member States. (Original version in French by Mathieu Bion)
