27/05/2019 (Agence Europe) – These European elections were unfavourable to the pan-European Spring European movement. The movement's Spitzenkandidat, the Greek and former minister Yanis Varoufakis, at the head of the German DiEM25 list, received only 0.3% of the total votes, which is not enough to become a European deputy. Similarly, with 3.27% of the votes cast, the French list member of the Generation.s movement, and its leader, Benoît Hamon, will have no MEPs. The movement will probably send only one member of parliament to the next European Parliament, Sofia Sakorafa, from the Greek list, Mera25. At the time of going to press, there was uncertainty, as the counting in Greece had not yet been completed. It is difficult to say what the movement will become now: Yanis Varoufakis plans to return to Greece to participate in the elections in June, explains one source. (PH)
