10/05/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Friday, May 10, Luxembourg and the United States signed a memorandum of understanding in the space sector. The aim is to “considerably” strengthen the cooperation between the two countries, to establish a formal and regular dialogue aimed at stimulating the industrial sector as well as the exchange of information, expertise and best practice. Several areas of cooperation have been identified: civil space exploration, science, research and development, earth observation, and space communication. “Like the United States, the Grand Duchy is the first European country to offer a legal framework that recognises that space resources can be used”, explained Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy, Étienne Schneider. For the American Secretary of Commerce, Wilbur Ross, Luxembourg and the United States share a common vision that “the future in space is above all commercial”. (PH)
