09/05/2019 (Agence Europe) – While welcoming the strategic agenda published by the European Council ahead of the Sibiu summit on Thursday 9 May, IndustriAll, which represents trade unions in the industrial sector, did not hide a certain mistrust of the ambitions expressed. In particular, trade unions appreciate the willingness of leaders to develop an industrial strategy at European level and to reduce inequalities through enhanced social protection and an inclusive labour market. But they recall that many of these ambitions were already on the strategic agenda of the 2014 European Council. “And unfortunately, many workers affected by the austerity and liberalisation policies introduced after the financial crash have not seen a change of course”, the trade union organisation notes.
