09/05/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday, 9 May, European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) General Secretary Luca Visentini welcomed the 10 principles included in the Sibiu Declaration (see other news) but bitterly noted the absence of any reference to social dialogue. “It’s a pity”, commented the general secretary soberly before looking to the near future. “What really matters is what happens next. The summit in Brussels in June needs to start turning principles into action”, he declared, resolutely waiting for the post-European election European summits on 28 May and 20 June. In particular, the trade unionist is waiting for an action plan to improve the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) and for the European Pillar of Social Rights to be implemented, pointing at the pay gap between Western and Eastern Europe.
