24/04/2019 (Agence Europe) – 200,000 people die each year (1 million since 2014) in the European Union as a result of workplace-related diseases, disorders or accidents, according to figures from the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) published on Tuesday 23 April. These estimates are reportedly below real numbers, according to the unions, due to “significant under-reporting” by management. The trade unions therefore call on the next European Parliament and the new Commission to: – set binding occupational exposure limit values for at least 50 carcinogenic substances; – introduce a directive on stress at work; – present a directive against musculoskeletal disorders; – finally, take initiatives to combat work-related suicide. The Confederal Secretary, Esther Lynch, points out in particular the digital platforms, which generate more and more traffic and, therefore, accidents. (PH)
