29/03/2019 (Agence Europe) – The American social media giant, Facebook, deployed, on Friday 29 March, the new tools it unveiled in January (see EUROPE 12181/10) to control political advertising on its site and to prevent any interference during next May’s European elections. To run political messages, advertisers will now have to obtain permission, confirm their identity and provide additional information about the person who paid for the ad. To implement its policy, the social network indicates that it will use “a combination of automated systems and user reporting”. Facebook has also set up a new database with additional information on ads, including the number of views and whom they target. Advertisers are invited, starting now, to submit their requests for authorisation. The social media site warns that it will start removing all non-compliant ads from mid-April. (MF)
