29/03/2019 (Agence Europe) – Ambassadors and representatives of the Member States to the EU gave their full support on Friday, 29 March at the meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives I (Coreper I) to the agreement reached on 27 March between the European Parliament and the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council on the regulation on general safety of vehicles and protection of vulnerable road users (see EUROPE 12222/21). The text adopted had been welcomed by civil society as a whole for its ambition, except for the implementation of some of these provisions (in particular the ‘direct vision’ cabs for trucks), which are sometimes extended up to 12 years after the entry into force of the regulation (for vehicles produced in small series). These deadlines were considered excessive by Germany, which, for this reason, did not support the text, according to our information. (PH)
