Divergence persists between MEPs and Council on capacity of European Border and Coast Guard Agency to conduct return operations from third countries to third countries

The European Parliament rapporteur on the new mandate of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (ex-Frontex), Roberta Metsola (Malta, EPP), explained on 21 March in the Civil Liberties Committee that an agreement had not yet been reached with the Council of the EU on the Agency's ability to carry out operations for non-Member States to non-Member-States, a request supported by the Member States, but rejected by the Parliament and the Member, which she did not find justified.
