07/03/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 7 March the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Federica Mogherini, “firmly” condemned the fact that the German Ambassador to Venezuela, Daniel Kriener, had been forced by the Maduro regime the day before to leave Venezuelan territory within 48 hours. Earlier this week, Mr Kriener travelled to Caracas airport with Western and Latin American diplomats to welcome the self-proclaimed interim president, Juan Guaidó, back from Colombia. “Measures that hinder diplomatic action only contribute to escalating tensions”, said Ms Mogherini. Although many EU countries, including Germany, have recognised Mr Guaidó's legitimacy, Europeans are trying to keep diplomatic channels open with the Maduro regime to find a political solution to the crisis.
