07/03/2019 (Agence Europe) – The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, warned on Wednesday 6 March against a certain temptation to allow the war in Syria to become a cold war. “Some are tempted to turn the war in Syria into a cold war and I think this would be the perfect recipe for more ethnic tensions, more human rights violations, new spaces for radicalisation and regrouping of terrorist organisations and, ultimately, more regional instability”, she stressed during a debate on the EU and the Middle East. According to Ms Mogherini, and while the regime has taken back almost the entire national territory, “it is time to relaunch the negotiations led by the UN in Geneva to put an end to the war”. (CG)
