06/03/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 5 March, the European Union added Hamza Usama Muhammad bin Laden, one of Osama bin Laden's sons, to the list of individuals, groups and entities involved in acts of terrorism and subject to restrictive measures. According to the legal act published in the Official Journal of the EU, Hamza Usama Muhammad bin Laden is accused of being an official member of Al Qaeda and of calling on supporters of this terrorist organisation to carry out terrorist attacks. He is also considered the most likely successor to Ayman al-Zawahiri, the current leader of Al Qaeda. This inclusion on the list of persons sanctioned is a transposition of the United Nations Security Council decision of 28 February 2019 to freeze Mr bin Laden's funds and financial resources. (CG)
