Regions are once again sounding the alarm about impact of a no-deal Brexit

25/02/2019 (Agence Europe)On the occasion of the presentation of research by a consortium of researchers from the University of Birmingham on the impact of leaving the United Kingdom without an agreement, on Friday 22 February in Brussels, the Committee of the Regions once again expressed its serious concerns about the impact of a “no deal Brexit”. On the basis of academic results, the President of the Committee of the Regions, Karl-Heinz Lambertz, recalled that the British economy will be 5 times more exposed than the rest of the EU. François Decoster (ALDE, France) stressed the consequences for regional economies of such a Brexit, which could widen European regional disparities, he said. In his view, the future cohesion policy should provide specific funding for the regions that will find themselves on the Union's external border after 29 March.
