The Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the European Union, meeting in Council on Monday 18 February, welcomed the Stockholm Agreement between the representatives of the Yemeni parties, concluded in December 2018.
In its conclusions adopted without debate, the Council explains that the EU will continue to work "actively" with all parties to the conflict and to support the political process. "Only a negotiated and inclusive political solution can put an end to the conflict in Yemen", the ministers recalled, calling on the parties to remain committed to the UN-led process with a view to future talks.
The Council therefore "strongly" condemns all actions that undermine the progress achieved in Stockholm, stressing that the parties must "exercise the utmost restraint, avoid actions that undermine the progress achieved and respect the agreements reached, both in letter and in spirit".
The parties must facilitate the delivery of commercial supplies and the entry and movement of personnel, equipment, food and essential items into the country "without hindrance or delay", urges the Council, while the humanitarian situation on the ground is still dire.
Ministers also call on all donors to contribute to the upcoming Yemen Donors' Conference on 26 February 2019 in Geneva, calling for these contributions to be part of a well-coordinated international response.
The EU and its Member States will continue to provide support, including political and financial support, to the United Nations to implement the Stockholm Agreement, the Council stresses. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
