18/02/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 18 February, the European Asylum Support Office (EASO) announced the immediate appointment of Slovenian Nina Gregori in the role of Director to replace José Carreira, who was the target of an investigation into maladministration (see EUROPE 12036). Ms Gregori, who was Director General for Migration at the Slovenian Ministry of Interior, is expected in particular to put the finances of the European office in order, which had seen its competences rapidly increase due to the massive influx of migrants in the European Union. In autumn 2018, the European Court of Auditors issued an unfavourable report on the legality and regularity of EASO payments. David Costello, from Ireland, and Mikael Ribbenvik, from Sweden, were also appointed President and Vice-President of the European Office respectively. (MB)
