24/01/2019 (Agence Europe) – The American giant Google intends to appeal against the 50 million euros fine imposed on it by the Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertés (CNIL), the AFP reported on Wednesday 23 January, quoting one of the company's spokespersons. As a matter of fact, the CNIL had received collective complaints from the None of Your Business (NOYB) association and La Quadrature du Net against Google (see EUROPE 12029). On Monday, they pinned the company for lack of transparency, unsatisfactory information and lack of valid consent for the personalisation of advertising, making use for the first time of the sanctions provided for in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which entered into force on 25 May (see EUROPE 12176). Google defends itself and believes it has worked “hard” to meet the requirements of the regulation. (MF)
