14/12/2018 (Agence Europe) – The Heads of State and Government decided on Thursday 13 December, during their preparatory discussion for the February EU-Arab League Summit, that they would raise the issue of the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi (see EUROPE 12114) and the situation in Yemen with Saudi Arabia at the summit. Riyadh currently presides over the Arab League. "There is a view around the table that we could not go to the summit without talking about the Kashoggi murder or [...] Yemen,", Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar told the press. "So we have decided to go ahead with the summit, but rather than glazing over those issues, we will use the summit, among other things, as an opportunity to raise our concerns... about that particular murder and the ongoing event in Yemen,” he added.
