14/12/2018 (Agence Europe) – In June 2019, the European leaders, with 27 or perhaps still 28 Member States, will adopt a new strategic programme for the next institutional cycle of the European Union. They will first discuss these priorities at the informal meeting of Heads of State or Government on 9 May 2019 in Sibiu, Romania, as stated in their conclusions adopted on Friday 14 December. They also welcomed the holding of citizens' consultations as an "unprecedented" opportunity, according to them, to communicate with European citizens (see EUROPE 12158, 12153). The French President said that his country would make "new proposals" to move Europe forward. "Our desire is, indeed, to promote a vision of a more sovereign, united and democratic Europe," said Emmanuel Macron, who initiated the citizens' consultation process. (MB and MF)
