10/12/2018 (Agence Europe) – The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, on Monday 10 December, expressed a sufficient level of interest from EU countries, neighbouring countries and regional organisations that could participate in an "international contact group" to create the conditions for a renewed dialogue between the Maduro regime and the Venezuelan political opposition (see EUROPE 12117). Spain is one of the interested Member States. The objective is not to mediate, she recalled, considering that the conditions for a resumption of political dialogue in Venezuela had not yet been met. Mrs Mogherini promised that the EU would act with a single voice when President Maduro was sworn in for a second term on 10 January. (MB with CG)
