10/12/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 10 December, the EU Council approved the joint communication from the Commission and the High Representative entitled ‘Elements of an EU strategy for India' (see EUROPE 12141). In their conclusions, the Ministers stressed the "importance of the strategic partnership between the EU and India, based on shared values", considering that it is in the interest of both sides to develop bilateral cooperation in all respects. In particular, the Council intends to develop cooperation in the areas of foreign policy, security, promotion of effective multilateralism, growth and prosperity, but also on research and innovation, digital technology and infrastructure. Stressing the importance of modernising the institutional architecture of the 1994 EU-India Cooperation Agreement, the Council invites the Commission and the High Representative to reflect on a possible Strategic Partnership Agreement.
