04/12/2018 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission has decided to grant a further €20 million in emergency humanitarian aid for the victims of the socio-economic crisis in Venezuela on Tuesday 4 December. This amount will strengthen the European Union's humanitarian effort to provide health care, food aid, emergency shelter and improve access to safe drinking water and sanitation for those affected, said Christos Stylianides, European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management. "The EU remains committed to help those in need in Venezuela, as well as the host communities in neighbouring countries", he said. The aid will be channelled through the Commission's humanitarian partners on the ground. It is in addition to the €35.1 million announced in June in response to the crisis in the region (see EUROPE 12036). (AN)
