04/12/2018 (Agence Europe) – The Scottish Secretary for Fisheries, Fergus Ewing, announced on Tuesday 4 December that he had written to the British Government asking it to make a number of amendments to the Fisheries Bill, concerning fishing quotas, fishing effort and taxes on sea products (see EUROPE 12125). The amendments concern in particular 'clause 18' which concerns the determination of quotas and limits in terms of fishing effort (days at sea). Legislation creating the powers the United Kingdom needs to operate as an independent coastal state after its withdrawal from the European Union was presented to the British Parliament on Thursday 25 October. It would allow the country to regain sovereignty over its waters (see EUROPE 12146). (LC)
