European Parliament and Council hope to conclude electricity package on Wednesday 5 December

04/12/2018 (Agence Europe)The EU institutions hope to conclude negotiations on Wednesday 5 December in Brussels on the revised regulatory framework for the electricity market (see EUROPE 12138). The most important issues that remain to be addressed, such as capacity mechanisms and regulated prices, give rise to differences between the Parliament on the one hand and the Council on the other. The margin for manoeuvre on the Council side is very narrow on capacity mechanisms and is based on the mandate of 23 November given to the Austrian Presidency of the Council (https://bit.ly/2UfiXAf ). "The European Commission relies too much on the assessments of national authorities, when we want a common European methodology when there is a problem", the Greens/EFA group's shadow rapporteur Florent Marcellesi of Spain told the press on Tuesday 4 December.
