26/11/2018 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission welcomed “the vote of the Swiss people” on Sunday 25 November on maintaining the superiority of international law over Swiss law, its spokesman Margaritis Schinas reacted on 26 November. This vote “maintains legal clarity when it comes to the status of international law and sends an important signal that Switzerland wishes to remain a credible international partner”. In a 'vote' organised by the conservative right of the SVP, the Swiss were called upon to vote on the primacy of Swiss law, more than 66% of them rejecting it. On that occasion, the Commission reiterated its desire to “consolidate its relationship with Switzerland”, in particular by “concluding a framework agreement”, the spokesman continued. The Federal Council is due to discuss this agreement again on 30 November, while discussions with Brussels are suspended. (SP)
