Debate on United Kingdom's application for membership of Agreement on Government Procurement

26/11/2018 (Agence Europe)The 47 members of the Agreement on Government Procurement (GPA) will discuss the United Kingdom's application to join the World Trade Organisation's plurilateral agreement on Tuesday 27 November. As the United Kingdom has not ratified the founding texts of the Agreement, it must now formally integrate the GPA (see EUROPE 12139) within the framework of Brexit. To do so, London must agree with the other GPA parties on its commitments, adopt legislation confirming the content of this schedule and notify the WTO of this ratification 30 days before the date of its withdrawal from the EU. However, several members of the GPA had expressed their reservations about this application, opposing the approach of the distribution of European commitments. According to a European source, an agreement in principle would now be within British reach. In this case, the formal decision will have to take place at a later stage. (HD)
