09/11/2018 (Agence Europe) – The EU Council definitively validated on 9 November the Commission's proposal to strengthen eu-LISA, the EU agency responsible for the operational management of large-scale IT systems. The Agency's new mandate aims to respond to the proposals on the interoperability of EU information systems on migration, security and border management under negotiation between the European Parliament and the Council. "From today, the eu-LISA agency will be transformed into a hub for all our information systems on borders, migration and security", said Migration Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos. Parliament validated the mandate in early July (see EUROPE 12056) and the Council in December 2017 (see EUROPE 11921). An interinstitutional agreement was reached last May (see EUROPE 12027). The mandate will enter into force 20 days after publication in the Official Journal. (SP)
