09/11/2018 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission decided on 7 November to register a European Citizens' Initiative inviting it to propose the mandatory labelling of all food products with pictograms indicating whether they are Non-Vegetarian / Vegetarian / Vegan. This initiative is legally admissible by the Commission, which has not yet analysed it on its merits. The organisers will have twelve months from 12 November, the date of formal registration of the initiative, to collect the necessary number of signatures. If they collect at least 1 million from at least seven different Member States, the Commission will have three months to respond. It may decide whether or not to grant the request, but in both cases it will be required to give reasons for its decision. (LC)
