26/10/2018 (Agence Europe) – Expressing her concern about recent developments in the Romanian judicial system (see EUROPE 12109), the European Commissioner for Justice, Věra Jourová, said at a press conference on Friday 26 October that this was a “complicating factor" as Romania will hold the Presidency of the EU Council from January to June 2019. The EU expects the country to fulfil this role without interfering with its internal problems, she said. "The efficiency of the work of each Presidency is very important to me and Romania comes at a very demanding time, a very sensitive time when we will rush to finalize many things”, she concluded. The Commission's concerns should be reflected in its report on the ‘Cooperation and Verification Mechanism', which will be published on 13 November and followed by a visit by the Commissioner to Romania.
