The European Parliament voted on Thursday 25 October in Strasbourg in favour of the proposal for a regulation that will align the reporting obligations of Member States and other stakeholders in the field of EU environmental policy.
The voted text will streamline the communication of information to be communicated by Member States under six directives and four regulations, modernising information management and reducing bureaucratic burden.
According to their rapporteur, Romanian Adina-Ioana Vălean (EPP), who chairs the Environment Committee, they approved and improved this legislative proposal, in particular by simplifying it and improving the clarity of certain terms to make them easier for the public to understand. They also strengthened the role of co-legislators, worked towards faster communication of certain data, by electronic transfer, and clarified the role of the European Environment Agency in the overall reporting and monitoring exercise.
Directives 86/278/EEC, 2002/49/EC, 2004/35/EC, 2007/2/EC, 2009/147/EC and 2010/63/EU and Council Regulations EC 166/2006, EU 995/2010, EC 338/97 and EC 2173/2005 will be amended. (Original version in French by Aminata Niang)
