On Wednesday 24 October, the ambassadors of the member states to the EU (Coreper) approved, without debate, the prolongation by a year of the European sanctions adopted against 18 Venezuelans close to the Maduro regime, due to the lack of improvement in the political situation in Venezuela.
These sanctions, which are based on a regulatory framework decided upon in November 2017 and which provide also for an embargo on the sale of weapons (see EUROPE 11903), were adopted in two stages.
