19/10/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 19 October, the European Commission approved the planned acquisition of GitHub by Microsoft. The two companies provide access to platforms for software development allowing developers to collaborate on source code, code editors and integrated development environments. The institution considered that the operation would not create a competition distortion on these market segments, as the future merged entity will face considerable competition from other businesses. Additionally, the merger of the two companies is not expected to cause any competition issues concerning DevOps tools and cloud services. The Commission therefore approved the acquisition. (LT)
