12/10/2018 (Agence Europe) – The European shipowners represented by ECSA (European Community of Shipowners' Association) welcome with some satisfaction, in a press release of Thursday 11 October, the vote of the Members of the European Parliament's transport committee of Tuesday 9 October on port reception facilities for the deposit of ship waste (see EUROPE 12113). In particular, the organisation welcomes the fact that MEPs have expressed their support for the absence of a waste limit that ships can deposit in a port after paying an indirect fee. However, one amendment voted upon suggests that "the indirect fee shall cover quantities normally delivered with respect to the category, type and size of the ship", leaving theoretically the possibility for port authorities to charge ships an additional fee if this "normal quantity of waste" is exceeded.
