12/10/2018 (Agence Europe) – The German group Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau, the French Development Agency and the EIB launched the Clean Oceans initiative on Friday 12 October, which will support the implementation of projects to reduce ocean pollution over the next five years. This €2 billion partnership will provide long-term financing and attract private investors mobilising for the collection and recycling of marine waste, in particular plastics, as well as untreated waste water discharges. Particular emphasis will be placed on riparian and coastal areas in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. 90% of plastic waste enters the oceans through 10 major river systems located in these regions of the world, where access to regular waste collection and controlled waste disposal is often lacking.
