12/10/2018 (Agence Europe) – The European Automobile Manufacturers' Association, ACEA, published a new raft of recommendations on the general safety regulation on Friday 12 October. The paper specifies its position published back in March (see EUROPE 11987). In essence, the organisation underlines that development of safety standards should be carried out within the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). In addition, the ACEA is keen on an integrated approach to road safety, also placing emphasis on infrastructure and drivers’ behaviour. On the subject of automatic driving, the organisation hopes to give preference to performance criteria rather than to specific technological aspects.
