On Friday 12 October, the European Commission approved the extension of a Danish tonnage tax scheme to types of vessels not previously covered by the measure.
The guidelines on state aid to maritime transport allow member states to apply a tonnage tax to maritime transport companies, based on the size of the fleet, rather than the normal corporate taxation scheme, to encourage them to register their vessels in Europe.
