02/10/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 2 October, the European Parliament endorsed the new audiovisual rules (452 votes for, 132 against and 65 abstentions). It is now up to the Council to approve the new directive so that it can be adopted. It will then apply 21 months after its entry into force. It should be recalled that the agreement reached on 26 April and confirmed on 6 June includes better protection for children against harmful content (see EUROPE 12011, 12036). It restricts the proportion of advertising to 20% of air time (minimum spacing of 30 minutes) between 6 and 18:00 hours and between 18:00 hours and 0:00 hours. Another novelty includes the fact that it will apply to video on demand and online video sharing, such as YouTube and Netflix. The text can be consulted at the following link: https://bit.ly/2yaySp2.
